WOODBURYDANCE CENTER

Competition line information 2011 – 2012

Are you interested in auditioning for a tap/jazz competition line?  Here is some information to help you decide if competition dance is right for you.

Competition line dancers must be at an intermediate to advanced level.  They should have good technique in jazz, tap and ballet.  They should feel comfortable performing on stage in front of large audiences.  They must also display good behavior and focus in class.

Dancers new to tap/jazz competition lines would most likely be placed in one of the following groups if they are at the appropriate level.  The scheduled class days are for the “regular season” of September – May.  Summer schedules will vary.  Monthly payments listed are for Sept – May.

The comp expenses listed above include costumes, accessories and competition entry fees.  Competition shoes and tights will need to be paid for separately.  These lines compete at three regional competitions each year.  Regional competitions are held in the spring between March and May and are located in St. Paul or Minneapolis.  Competition lines are also required to attend a national competition each summer at a location chosen by the directors.  We sometimes have the opportunity to attend a national competition in the Twin Cities but other nearby locations such as Chicago or Wisconsin Dells are also a possibility.  The competition lines also perform in many of the WDC spring recitals.

Fundraising opportunities are available to those who choose to participate including selling wreaths, working at the Xcel and doing concessions at our recitals through the Youth Dance Parent Association.  Membership in the YDPA is required to participate in most fundraisers.
